Will we make it?
(Thanks Mrs. Incredible- I actually picked a different one...)
"Dear Mr. President"
Pink
(feat. Indigo Girls)
Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?
Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.
What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh
How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You'd never take a walk with me.
Would you?

Everytime I hear this song, I cry. Thanks for the boo hoo.
This is terrible. She certainly has every right to write, sing, and distribute this song, but it's absolutely terrible to insinuate that Bush contributes to (or, more popular these days, CAUSES) every world problem and issue whil he just happily sits in his chair and watches it all unfold.
I'm a longtime reader but gosh, this has made me lose so much respect for you. It's ok to hate Bush but this just tweaks me the wrong way. Especially since there'd be a mass outcry if it were ANY. OTHER. PRESIDENT. being unfairly burdened this way. Are we or are we not all human? Humans don't accuse other humans of "pave(ing) the road to hell..." That is just wrong.
Dear Anon
There would be a massive outcry of protest if there was any other president who wasn't running a police state. shoot the messenger in today's climate. just try and have a massive outcry about the war. JUST FUCKING TRY.
we're all on the road to hell, just by default. just by living here.
I love the song. I do think it is really poinant and speaks to me. I also, dont think it blames bush for everything, but it does highlight key areas where the singer, I, and many other Americans feel that Bush has not done enough or worse has made a situation more dire. Thank you for sharing.
i am having a hard time understanding why the poster above (anonymous) has "lost respect for you" for simply posting the lyrics from a pop song. does he/she call every radio station in town to tell them the same?
this is ignorance at it's finest. every president in history has faced opposition. ugh. only 339 days left people...
