"How do you do it?"
I hadn't seen her while I was shopping, but there she was.
I laughed and smiled. She stood there waiting.
I realize she's not leaving until she gets an answer.
Me: "How do I do what?"
She: "Your children, I've been watching and they are so well behaved, how do you do it?"
Again I laugh.
She waits.
Me: "Well, I follow through with my threats... When I say you can have a hot dog when we are done, if you've done a good job, I mean it. They know that. And there are times that there's no hot dog."
She: "Well they have just done a beautiful job".
Me: "Thank you"
And off she went.

Awwwww.... unsolicited NICEness. It's a good thing. I always try to spread a little around. The girls are so big! Cute shot, too. And don't you just love that they've made shopping carts with 2 seats up front, now?

wish i'd had my camera yesterday when i was at bjs, with my girl stuffing a roll into her mouth...holding a dora dvd and waving HI to everyone in the store!
That's it? and she didn't eat those 2 yummies up? sheesh! some people;)
They did a beautiful job because YOU are doing a beautiful job.
Seriously, could your little girls be any cuter? I think not!
When parents bring in their small children to parent/teacher conferences or into my office to talk about their high school student AND the children are well behaved while we are talking important high school stuff AND the parents correct their children if they do happen to misbehave...
...then I thank the parents for doing their job of parenting.
Every single time.
If they, for some reason or another, decline the thanks and say, "They're just good kids" or "I got lucky" then I reiterate it:
Thank you for doing your job. Parenting is not easy and you have taken the challenge for what it is: a challenge to raise healthy, kind children. Thank you.
Every. Single. Time.
