"You have blonde highlights, I didn't know you had those"
I start running my fingers through my hair, thinking, what the hell is in my hair that is making it look blonde...? Cuz, I have dark brown hair, hello????
I tilt my head to the side and let Leo examine my hair. All the while Käri observes from a few feet away, looking quizzically my way. We exchange a "What the hell??' look.
And then, finally, Leo exclaims "Oh, it's just gray!"

Yeah. I got my first highlights at 18. Now it is unclear whether it is brown with "blonde" highlights or the other way around.
I insist on the fomer, of course.

My oldest son (all of mine adopted as well), now nearly 17, thinks my gray is very cool. And, they do look kinda blonde in the right light...got that going for me.
Lil brat. I have blonde highlights, too!! YAY....
Okay now, don't laugh...I just paid to have blonde highlights put in to cover the gray hair....Are you saying I already had highlights?....Hmmm.....
My son (age 5) sometimes yells for me by calling out, "Mama with the gray hair, come here!"
