Follow Up

We got a call from social services late in the afternoon. I had been anticipating a call...or not a call, all day. Truly couldn't decide if I was excitedly anticipating, worried, or going to be disappointed. I was certainly a bit on the anxious side.

The worker called and confirmed that we were "open" -meaning we could take a child or children into our care. I asked if this was about the the two little boys we had heard about and she confirmed. However, she had misunderstood some inner office communications and , while she had called earlier in the day, wasn't sure if we would have taken the boys or not.

Apparently she had called earlier in the day looking for placement, but when she did not reach us, did not leave a message because she wasn't positive we were available for placement. In the interim she placed the boys in a different home and at this point was confirming our availability for the future.

These things, they happen for a reason.

Käri and I did discuss it and said that we would remain on the available list. And that is that... for now.

aw, well, yes- these things do tend to happen for a reason... that said I'm dissapointed! I wanted to live vicariously through you! hahaha! you see now I still get too....ring phone, ring! <--that anticipation and wonder is something I do really miss! I wouldnt change the kids I have for the world, but admit that knowing that I am no longer able to take future placements does hurt. My county wont allow me(and I say me because it seems to me others are able to do it) foster anymore because of the severe nature of two of my kids special needs. :(

Isn't Mari the only one with severe needs? Are they saying that developmental delays are severe now? Maybe when your girls get a bit older...

Kudos to you for seeing that things happen for a reason. While I too believe that, it is hard to always understand the "reason," especially at the moment.

And you're staying on the available list? Wow! How cool is that?!? I'll stay tuned to see how things play out. :)

Sandy.

Em is also a level 6 med/frag kiddo who is actually doing well right now, but that could change any moment. she has a pretty serious medical condition/history(subglottic stenosis/post trach)and is FTT, short staure(6yrs old and smaller than my 3yr old)FAE, RAD and multiple chromosomal abnormailties ontop of her medical conditions. It all looks like a lot on *paper* but in reality she is just a tiny kid(adorable and funny as hell ta boot! Albeit a behavioral challenge) who needs med/nebs up top 6X daily. Maybe a private agency?
